Boy Scout Troop 166 in Chicago
We Rock, Weather or Not!
Current Troop Status Feb. 12, 2019
I must begin this month’s column with a sad report. After a 6-month battle against cancer, Mr. Andy Witt, a member of the UIF congregation, and our own Committee Chairman passed away on February 7th. I am told that Andy passed peacefully, free of pain and surrounded by his family. We of Troop 166 and many in the wider Scouting community will miss him greatly.
As with all things, we must continue on…
Normally, Scouts don’t cancel activities due to weather, but when the Chicago Public Schools cancel classes over one day in advance, well, even we must take notice. The Pinewood and Klondike Derbies were simply not worth the risk of frostbite or hypothermia (yes, we know how to treat those, step one is avoiding them). So, undeterred, we venture boldly on…
Coming up in the Month of March, we have three, count ‘em, three outings planned. Once more, we will hone our archery skills at our favorite range, we will improve our orienteering skills at a course in Poplar Creek, and we will go bowling, followed by an overnight lock-in in the West building, followed by providing service for the Indoor Farmers Market.
