Cub Scout Uniforms

The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. One reason stands out above all the rest. We wear the uniform because it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which we are committed; character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness.

The fact that youth and adult members of Scouting wear a uniform doesn't mean that we're all alike. The uniform is not intended to hide our individuality, rather it is a way we give each other strength and support. It is a bond that ties us together in spite of our differences. It is a way of making visible our commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and to helping other people. The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we are openly identifying ourselves with those values.

Pack 167 desires uniforms to be worn for all Den and Pack functions, unless otherwise specified.  Generally, when the Class-A uniform is not to be worn, the Class-B uniform is the Pack 167 T-shirt.  If neither is to be worn for any specific event or activity, this will be announced ahead of time.  When activities are posted on the website calendar, a notation is to be included as to what attire is appropriate...  "Class-A" (dress uniform), "Class-B" (the official Pack T-Shirt with "respectable" pants or shorts), or "Casual".

Those who may be unable to obtain or afford a Scout Uniform may contact Stewart Hickman for confidential assistance through Pack or Council resources available for such situations.

If you may be wondering where a particular patch or insignia belongs on the uniform, the official reference resource is the BSA Insignia Guide.  It is available online - HERE.
If you are unable to access the guide, or are unable to find the answer to your question, please contact Stewart Hickman.

Male Adult Leader Uniforms

All men who are Scouting leaders wear the same uniform with shoulder loops that indicate their program (blue shoulder loops indicate Cub Scouting). The official uniform consists of the following parts:

  • Trousers or shorts - Official olive trousers or shorts are available in cotton, polyester/cotton blend, and polyester/wool blend.

  • Shirt - Official tan shirt is available with long or short sleeves, button-down pockets, and epaulets

  • Socks - Olive socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee.

  • Belt - Leaders may opt to wear the olive web belt or an official leather belt.

  • Cap - Leaders who opt to wear a cap may wear the blue and gold leaders' cap or they wear the same cap as the youth they serve.

Neckwear is also optional for leaders, but there are a handful of options:

  • Necktie - An olive or tan dress tie may be worn.

  • Necktie - A Cub Scout leader bolo tie is also available.

  • Leader Neckerchiefs - A Cub Scout leader neckerchief with navy blue with gold edging and gold Cub Scout emblem may be worn by all Cub Scout leaders. Specialized neckerchiefs are also available for Tiger Cub den leaders and Webelos den leaders.

Female Adult Leader Uniforms

Women who serve as adult leaders in the Cub Scout program have two uniform options.

Tan/Olive Uniform - Female leaders may wear the tan and olive uniform, identical to the one worn by men. Uniform options for women also include culottes or a skirt, and a scarf is available as a neckwear option. Female leaders who wear culottes or a skirt may opt to wear hose/nylons instead of the uniform socks.

Blue/Gold Uniform - Female leaders in Cub Scouting also have the option of wearing a blue and gold uniform, consisting of:

  • Trousers, shorts, skirt, or culottes—Official blue.

  • Blouse—Yellow shirt is available with long or short sleeves, button-down pockets, and epaulets.

  • Socks—Official blue socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee. Female leaders who wear culottes or skirt may opt to wear hose instead.

  • Belt—Official blue web belt with the Cub Scout logo.

  • Cap—Leaders who opt to wear a cap may wear the blue and gold leaders' cap or they wear the same cap as the youth they serve.

  • Neckwear—Options include the Cub Scout leader neckerchief, special neckerchiefs for Tiger Cub den leaders and Webelos den leaders, or an official scarf.

"Class - B" Uniform
T-Shirt

There are times, events, and special activities where it is appropriate to where a "Class B" uniform.  While dressing down may be appropriate, we should still be clearly identifiable as Cub Scouts, and specifically as Cub Pack 167.  When activities are posted on the website calendar, a notation is to be included as to what attire is appropriate...  "Class-A" (dress uniform), "Class-B" (the official Pack T-Shirt with "respectable" pants or shorts), or "Casual".

The cost of the T-shirts are $10.  The hoodie sweatshirts are $20.

It should also be noted that the gold color of our shirts was specifically selected to make it easier to locate our people in a crowd.  For this reason, several families have chosen to get shirts for every member of the family.

If you may be wondering where a particular patch or insignia belongs on the uniform, the official reference resource is the BSA Insignia Guide.  It is available online - HERE.
If you are unable to access the guide, or are unable to find the answer to your question, please contact
Stewart Hickman.
